Theme for 2014

In my last post I talked about setting a Word of the Year as a way of finding your intention, your direction and your vision for the coming 12 months. Since I’ve more than one word the past couple of years, I think I’ll begin to refer to it as my theme for the coming year.

With all the changes in my life over the last few months, I decided it was the right time to create a new vision board, not just for the new year, but for the next phase of my life. So, I gathered magazines and began tearing out pages and cutting images and words from them. And I came across this phrase – 2014: Adventure Time.

2014 Adventure Time

Whoa! I keep talking about, and preparing for, the adventures I want to have, and to share. In fact, I often look at the process of getting to my vision, of living aboard and cruising, as an adventure. But seeing this phrase kind of brings it home – time to step it up, to really move toward the adventure.

And what is “adventure?” Well, let these quotes help clarify:

“An adventure is any undertaking the outcome of which cannot be known at the outset.” Unknown (and if you know, please share!)

“When you ask for adventure, you don’t always know what you’ll get. That’s how adventure works. You could choose the safe route and avoid the risk of disappointment, but a good adventurer would never do that.” Chris Gullibeau

“The biggest adventure you can take is to live the life of your dreams.” Oprah Winfrey (my personal favorite!)

“The big question is whether you are going to say a hearty YES to your adventure.” Joseph Cambell.

Oh, Hell YES!!!!

And if there was any doubt about me stepping up and saying YES to my adventure, I received a sailing  book as a Christmas gift from a friend. Inside she wrote me a message and included, “BE BOLD.”

In 2014, I will be bold on my adventures!

There will be more changes in my personal life – buying a sailboat, begin living aboard, learning the boat, learning to take care of her, and to sail her. My business – and my entire life – will begin shifting to allow me the freedom to be mobile, to sail when the wind is right and not when my schedule says I can go. I will also buy my first surfboard and take baby steps to getting comfortable on it and see where that goes. I want to find the edge of my comfort zone and confront it and move beyond it, even an inch! I want to learn to love myself, unconditionally, in order to set the proper example to anyone else who wants to be in my life.

Bold adventures indeed!
